Giveaway and Perfect Present

It's not a secret I don't like Valentine's Day. It's way too commercialized, and all in all, men should bring flowers and buy chocolate a year around, not just one day (yes, I know - you wish). I had my share of good and bad 14th's of February, and great presents (golden chain with a heart with beatiful roses) and no presents at all. I'm more forgiving now - a little something with "Happy Valentine's Day" and "I love you" will do, even without champagne and a huge amount of roses. Well, it doesn't hurt if laundry, dishes, and carpet cleaning are thrown into the pot. I know, not romantic, but makes your life a little easier, doesn't it?

I'd love to know: what do you think is a perfect present? I'll make a draw from the answers, and the winners will receive their choice from the following books: "Gone" by Lisa Gardner (thriller), "The Client" by John Grisham (legal thriller), "Teach Me" by R.A. Nelson (a very controversial Young Adult), "The Sunshine Coast News" by Kate Austin, "The Kill" by Allison Brennan (I'd say, Romantic Suspense), "4th of July" by James Patterson (surprisingly for myself, I'd put it as RS, too). And what was your favorite Valentine's gift?

My favorite gift was the white teddy bear, brown eyes and black nosey holding three Mylar balloons in his right hand and each balloon has roses around the outside and says 'I Love You' on each. The bear has a red ribbon around his neck.
I agree the small things or unusual gestures are sometimes better than big gifts and at no certain time of the year.

Not having been overly-successful on V-day myself, this will be difficult...I don't like flowers, and I'm afraid of balloons. Out of all those successful V-days, it's just been being able to spend quality time with the significant other, no matter if it's a free walk in the park or an expensive trip out of town.

I didn't get anything this year. Hubby asked me what he wanted me to buy him. Umm....if I have to tell you, it kind of negates the holiday.

It isn't really a big deal. He is getting my kitchen remodeled.

My favorite gift was a Kitchen Aid mixer I got for my first Mother's Day. How sick is that? :) I love that thing still.

Robyn, that's really a very lovely gift! I especially like lots of "I Love You's"!

Marty, I agree about the quality time. Sometimes the minutes spent together count more than diamond bracelets. Not that I have anything against diamond bracelets, of course!

Rene, Kitchen Aid mixer? Lol! But I think that's not sick, that's thoughtful! And a guy who's willing to get the kitchen remodeled for his wife sounds like a perfect gift!

I really don't know - I've never had a valentine's gift before, so most things would be welcome, simply because of the novelty. I have a list of stuff I wouldn't want - like perfume (no perfume I've tried ever suits me), stuffed toys and lingerie (prefer to choose my own) Being given these things would just prove that the man didn't know me - if things were very recent, that'd be okay, but if they weren't, it would be a problem!

We don't do Valentines in our house. It passes by without nary a notice and that's just the way we like it.

The perfect gift? A compliment out of the blue. A random act of kindness. A hug from a child. Any of these make my day!

Claire, thanks for your input! I agree about the lingery, but to be honest, I'm a sucker for stuffed toys!

Meretta, I think sometimes the best way to celebrate the V-Day is not to celebrate it at all. At least, better than sweetened and flowered hypocrisy (sp?) Thanks for visiting!

I didn't get anything for V-Day this year, but a couple years ago hubby bought me one of those huge balloons that was filled with candy and stuffed animals, etc. and I also got one of those huge stuffed bears. The balloon was the neatest thing though.

The perfect gift I think would be just to spend quality time with the ones you love. Material things don't have to come into the mix to make it special, although when they do, it's always a nice added bonus! LOL

Megan, the present sounds awesome indeed! As for material things, indeed, they are not the most important thing in the world, though it doesn't hurt to have them!

I'm always single at Valentine's but I think the nicest gift I've gotten was this year from my dad. A dozen yellow roses, some chocolate and a dvd I wanted.
