New Hopes

I am not a girl who likes changes. (Though if it's an awesome one, like Kelly did with her blog, I'm all for it). I love safe and steady. But after reading one of the comments I remembered that for many years every New Year represented a new beginning for me, wish that something would be different and more wonderful. I longed for a change, but a change for better. In adolescent years, it could be a hope for a new and improved boyfriend or boyfriends - well, the year is long. Later, for getting into the university, making it to the top of my class, being the best friend-student-daughter I could be. And later again, for a better profession.

It was naive, but I probably thought that each year past mistakes could be erased, and we could start from a clean slate and make lives better for ourselves. Because, after all, it was a different year. I used to make a wish every New Year. But somewhere, sometime, I stopped hoping because I learned that no news is good news. Crushed hopes are worse than no hopes at all.

So, how is it for you? Are there any changes you want in 2007? What do you hope the New Year will bring? Do you make any plans? Or is it just a different number for you?

P.S. Bad news. Chrys*'s house was burnt down to the ground.

It is funny how in one day your expectations can change. Luckily for me, for the good. I want to sell this year. And I want my kitchen remodeled. The kitchen is for sure. I always plan to lose 30lbs. every year, its kind of my stock resolution but I do need to take it more seriously this year.

I was devastated when I read about Chrys* but she is so strong and seems to have things in perspective. She is handling this better than I ever could, but she is an incredible person, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Rene, with an agent you're so close to your dream! I'm sure the New Year will bring you the sale. And I so agree about Chrys*.

Hi Olga, don't stop wishing because I know some wishes can come true if you set your mind to them. =) There are times I don't like change, and other times I know it's for the better. Safe is always good, but there are times for risk in order to try for what we want. =D

I got your card! Thanks so much, Olga! =D

Changes for 07, well it'd be nice to lose some weight (though I say that every year *g*), get an agent and maybe actually sell something -- sabrina would be nice
So sad to hear about what happened to Chrys, esp. at this time of year. What a horrible thing to go through

Sorry I didn't get by this weekend - family obligations on both days.

I wish for peace for myself this coming year ... that would be nice for a change.

Heard about Chrys the other day - so sad, and like Lis said, especially at this time of year.

I don't usually do the resolution thing, but this year I'm focusing hard on my goals.

I'm looking to sell, land an agent and get my rear to Dallas for the RWA conference. And I'm willing to tolerate crushed hopes in lieu of getting what I want, even if it takes longer than I'd like. To me, perseverence is key.

Kelly, that's a great advice! I shouldn't be afraid of taking risks, and I still try to remember that "glass half full" philosophy. Glad you got the card!

You know I make those kinds of decisions on my birthday, but the end of one year and start of another does make me introspective. There are some things I'd like the "do-over" in 2006, but had they not happened, I might never have learned valuable things about myself. I think it's good there's not a rewind button on life (and that's not easy for me to say). Thank you so much for the card! Did mine make it???

Marty, yes, your card made it! Thank you so much! I didn't let you know? Shame on me! And as for the rewind button for life, I tend to agree with you, though there are some things I'd definitely change if I could do it all over again.

I'm looking forward to meeting more people next year, and continuing on with my exercise programme, but I won't actually be making "resolutions"

Claire, sounds like a great plan! To be honest, I avoid resolutions, too. If it happens, then it happens.
